Why Does Everyone Keep Saying “Can You Hear Me?” in Your Conference Room?
September 2026

The presentation is ready, everyone joins on time, and then the first few minutes are spent asking:
“Can you hear us?”
“Can you move closer to the microphone?”
“Is there an echo?”
These problems may seem minor, but when they happen meeting after meeting, they affect productivity and make communication with employees, clients, and partners unnecessarily difficult.
The microphone may not match the room
A microphone that works well in a small meeting room may not provide adequate coverage in a larger conference space. Room dimensions, seating arrangements, ceiling height, and the number of participants all affect microphone performance. If people have to lean toward a microphone or raise their voices to be heard, the system may not be designed appropriately for the space.
The room itself affects the sound
Glass walls, hard floors, large tables, and other reflective surfaces can create echo and reverberation. This means that even high quality microphones and speakers can perform poorly when room acoustics have not been considered as part of the AV design.
Speaker placement matters
Speakers need to provide clear, even sound throughout the room without creating feedback or making remote participants difficult to understand. In larger spaces, relying on a television’s built in speakers may not provide the coverage needed for everyone in the room.
Your systems may not be working together
Modern conference rooms often include displays, cameras, microphones, speakers, control systems, wireless presentation technology, and video conferencing platforms. When these components are selected or installed independently, employees can end up with a system that is unnecessarily complicated or unreliable.
A better conference room should make meetings easier
The goal isn’t simply to add more technology. It’s to create a room where people can walk in, start a meeting, share content, and communicate clearly without thinking about the technology behind it.
If audio problems, connection issues, or complicated controls have become a normal part of your meetings, it may be time to evaluate the room as a complete system rather than replacing individual devices.
