That can be particularly useful for organizations with hybrid employees, frequent personnel changes, or multiple facilities.

Cards or phones.

Some organizations can use both.Physical credentials may continue working for certain employees or facilities while mobile credentials are introduced for others.

The better question is whether your current credential strategy still matches the way your organization operates.

Think beyond the credential

The card or smartphone is only the part employees see. Behind it is an access control system determining:

• Who can enter?
• Which doors can they access?
• When are they allowed in?
• What happens when their role changes?
• How quickly can access be removed?
• Can administrators manage multiple locations?

Those questions are often more important than whether someone taps a card or a phone at the door.

Which option is right for your organization?

If your existing cards are easy to manage and your system meets your security requirements, there may be no reason to change immediately.

But if your team spends significant time issuing cards, replacing lost credentials, managing permissions, or coordinating access across locations, it may be worth exploring newer options.
